Greetings!

It's hard to believe the holidays are upon us, but it sure is exciting! The holidays also bring lots of stress and headaches for many people.

We'd like to help our readers and clients realize that there is a better way. I heard it put beautifully recently: when you work with us, you're not buying services, you're buying TIME. And what better gift to give yourself?

This month and next we will be focusing on giving you ideas to lift the burden and make this time of year nothing but pure fun. We want to help you keep your life in balance, and to be on call for you when you us.

4 Daylight Saving Time ends

"Fall back" with your clocks one hour before going to bed on the night of Saturday the 3rd. (And did you know it really is called "Daylight Saving Time," and not "SavingS"?!)

10 U.S. Marine Corps Day

On this date in 1775 the Second Continental Congress voted to raise 2 battalions of Continental Marines, thus marking the birth of the Corps. Semper Fidelis!

11 Veterans' Day

Veteran's Day is a federal holiday honoring men and women, both living and deceased, who have served in the nation's armed forces. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I, which took place at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month. Congress changed the name to Veteran's Day in 1954. Raise the flag, pause to reflect, then hug your favorite veteran today!

15 Great American Smokeout

Are you thinking about quitting smoking? Today's the day! Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, it's an opportunity to join millions of other smokers in saying "no thanks" to cigarettes for 24 hours. Please, please, please stop smoking!

22 Thanksgiving Day

No way to give you the full story here: pilgrims, Indians, harvests, celebrations, turkeys, maize...the list goes on. Just eat until you're full, and take time to be thankful for all the joy in your life. (Oh, and take it easy--the average person eats over 4000 calories on Thanksgiving Day!!)

Have other dates this month that are important to you: birthdays, anniversaries, etc.? Visit our Forget Me Not page on our website to learn how QCS can make sure no important date ever goes forgotten again.

Thanksgiving Zen
invite

Despite the warning bells in your head , you've gone and done it again - you committed to hauling the family back to your childhood home. Let's face it, Thanksgiving with the family is a whole other world, isn't it?

With a focus on perspective and a little bit of planning, you can maintain a Zen-like state despite fighting traffic jams or nosy Aunt Gertrude.

Perspective

It sounds simple, but focus on the holiday.  Thanksgiving is not about materialism.  It is a time to focus on family and friends, and to be thankful for all that you have.

So when the emotional buttons that your family installed have been pushed one too many times, try these tips:

  • Start a tradition of writing or stating one thing you are grateful for on each day of your vacation.
  • Investigate charitable volunteer opportunities in the area you are visiting.  Encourage your family to spend an hour or two volunteering with you.

Like a Boy Scout, Be Prepared

If you're flying, check in online before you get to the airport.  If you can't make it with carry-ons, ship your bags via UPS or FedEx to your destination.  You'll zip through the airport.

To help pass the time and keep little ones entertained, load your iPod with books as well as music.  And for long drives, get books on CD.  You can get them at your local library.

Book time in the middle of family overload to go for a walk or better yet, to a local spa for a massage.

Rehearse concise answers for the dreaded comments and questions: "You look tired." "Have you gained weight?" "Are you dating anyone?"  Take away the element of surprise and shut down the negativity.

Finally, look for some fun local events and festivals in the area .

Keep in mind what you're grateful for, and this year's holiday just might be one you'll look back on fondly.

You Can Do THAT For Me?!
invite

As we talk about the work we do, invariably folks are stunned to find out about some recent task we handled. So, each month we'll tell you about something interesting we've done. It might also spark an idea for how we can help YOU!

Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday for many: family, friends, and good food. But not nearly as many of us enjoy the preparation: getting the house in shape for guests, standing in long grocery lines, hours of cooking... Don't let it all make you break out in a cold sweat. Follow the lead of some of our clients, and let us save your holiday!

We can assist in many ways to ensure your Thanksgiving is stress free and impressive.
