Greetings!
They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Has
this been true where you are? It seems like it hasn't stopped
raining in the Bay Area for weeks now--which is what defines our
"bad" winters! I just got new patio furniture and so am really ready
to see the rains end and to welcome that Springtime lamb!
As we move into Spring, with this newsletter it is our goal to
provide useful information and tips, and to be on call for you when
you need help with all your projects. We'd love to hear what you
would like to see in upcoming issues.
With tulips and daffodils on my mind,
Ellen Lovelace, Founder and President

17 St. Patrick's Day
St. Patrick was responsible for bringing Christianity to
Ireland in the 400s A.D. He used a 3-leafed clover, or
Shamrock, to explain the trinity of Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. Green is the color of Ireland, Spring, and the
shamrock, which is why it is worn today. Everyone is Irish on
March 17th!
20 First Day of Spring
Day and night are of equal length at this, the Vernal
Equinox. Ancient Saxon legend said that the goddess, Eostre,
who symbolized new life and fertility, was saved by a bird
whose wings had become frozen by winter, which turned the bird
into a hare: a long-eared rabbit that could also lay eggs! So
now you know.

| Home Office Organization Day is March 14! |
 |
Sure, there's a day for everything, or so it seems. But
getting your home workspace organized is really something
worth investing time in. Trying to get things done in a
chaotic or uncomfortable environment is self-defeating and
depressing. Take the time to make your home office a place you
enjoy being.
First, think about the physical layout. Is everything you
need within reach? Do you have sufficient work surface and
file space? How about ergonomics? There are very specific ways
(readily available online or through QCS) to lay out your
chair, monitor, and keyboard to ensure you are working in a
healthy way.
Next, consider your storage and filing needs. Things you
use frequently should be within arm's reach. Items that are
active but not constantly in use can be a bit farther away
from you. And items that are rarely used should be in an
archived filing system. First decide what you are going
to keep and what will be tossed, and only then head out
to look for organizational or filing systems at the local
store. You have to know what you're dealing with before you
can figure out how best to file it! And remember, make sure
your filing system makes sense to YOU. There's no right way to
file.
Most importantly, don't quit. Getting 90% of the way done
leaves 10% of your office in chaos. That chaos will quickly
take over and undo all your hard work. Stay motivated: try
taking before and after pictures so you can see how far you've
come!

Escape to the Snow! |
|
|
|
The entire country has been graced with a fair amount of
snow recently, and a winter getaway can be just the ticket to
some fantastic fun. Make the most of your trip by taking a few
precautions on the side of safety.
Be sure to check the following:
- Do your tires have enough tread?
- Top off antifreeze and windshield washer fluid
- Check windshield wipers to be sure they are working well
- Check all lights, headlamps and brake lights
- Check brakes
Bring these items along:
- Ice scraper/broom for snow removal
- Chains that are properly fitted to your tires
- A bag of kitty litter or sand for wheel traction
- Bottled water & food
- Blankets
- Flashlight with fresh batteries
- First aid kit
- Toilet paper
If stranded in the snow, stay in your car and raise your
hood. Keep your tail pipe clear of snow and crack a window
slightly to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Help will find
you.
For safety while on the slopes, follow these tips:
- Drink plenty of water
- Limit alcohol consumption
- Get enough sleep
- Wear the proper clothing, water-resistant and layered
- Sun Protection - wear protective eyewear & good
sunblock
- Protective Headwear – too many people are injured each
year. Protect your best asset, wear a helmet.
Have fun, be safe and make memories this winter.
