Quicksilver Concierge and Errand Service Newsletter

March, 2007

Greetings!

They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Has this been true where you are? The rains have stopped in the Bay Area, and we are having a week of sunny 70s, so no real lion here! Let's hope the lamb sticks around all month.

As we move into Spring, with this newsletter it is our goal to provide useful information and tips, and to be on call for you when you need help with all your projects. We'd love to hear what you would like to see in upcoming issues.

With tulips and daffodils on my mind,

Ellen Lovelace, Founder and President

March Calendar

8 International Women's Day

The entire month of March is Women's History Month, with this special day honoring all the women of the world. Behind every great man... To learn more about Women's History Month, click here.

11  Daylight Savings Time Begins

Spring your clocks ahead one hour today. And thank your Congressman for the extra sunlight: Congress passed an energy bill in August 2005 that extends Daylight Savings Time by a month. Beginning in 2007, Daylight Savings Time will start the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November.

17 St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick was responsible for bringing Christianity to Ireland in the 400s A.D. He used a 3-leafed clover, or Shamrock, to explain the trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Green is the color of Ireland, Spring, and the shamrock, which is why it is worn today. Everyone is Irish on March 17th!

20 First Day of Spring

Day and night are of equal length at this, the Vernal Equinox. Ancient Saxon legend said that the goddess, Eostre, who symbolized new life and fertility, was saved by a bird whose wings had become frozen by winter, which turned the bird into a hare: a long-eared rabbit that could also lay eggs! Aha!

Finetune Your Mornings

So you aren't a "morning person"-- in fact, you would do anything for just another half hour in bed.  What can you do to keep from running late every morning?  Here are a few tips to keep yourself on track and to avoid the panic of being late again tomorrow.

First, prepare the night before.  It sounds simple, but it really works. Keep this list handy and before long, the routine will be a habit.

  • Choose clothing (including accessories) and lay or hang them in a convenient place.
  • Pack your briefcase or book bag completely and place near the door.
  • Keep important items in one central and easy to find location:

§         Keys

§         Wallet

§         Cellphone (charging)

§         Office ID

·                                 Prepare the coffee maker, load the coffee and set the timer or have it ready to flip the switch.

·                                 Make a power smoothie: they're fast and easy and a healthier way to start the morning than skipping breakfast all together.

Ingredients:

½ Cup Frozen fruit

1 scoop of protein powder

1 banana

½ cup of milk

Throw all ingredients in the blender and once blended well, put into a travel mug to drink on the drive into the office.

A little pre-planning goes a long way to getting your day started off right. Try this for a week and see how much more time you have in the morning. You may even get to sleep that extra few moments you wished for!

Pantry Raid!

Quick question: how many packages of spaghetti do you have in your pantry?

Quick question #2: how many grams of trans fats, sodium, and sugar do you have in your pantry?

For most people, the pantry is a catch-all spot where we quickly lose track of what's in there, and can't ever find what what we need. It's also a spot where we tend to accumulate fast-fix foods that frequently aren't the healthiest. With heart disease and obesity at alarming levels, and with as busy as your life is, wouldn't you love to have a well-organized pantry filled with fast, healthy foods you'd be proud to serve your family?

QCS is pleased to offer our newest service: the total meal makeover! Working closely with your tastes, we will:

  • Clean out the junk foods
  • Reorganize your kitchen and pantry, making it easy to find what you need
  • Restock your pantry with healthy and tasty items
  • Leave you with ideas for quick and healthy meals your family will love

An efficient kitchen will save you money and time, and you'll be surprised to learn how easy it is to maintain an organized lifestyle. Contact us today to learn how we can get your family on the road to happy and healthy eating.

You Can Do THAT For Me?!

As we talk about the work we do, invariably folks are stunned to find out about some recent task we handled. So, each month we'll tell you about something interesting we've done. It might also spark an idea for how we can help YOU!

Recently, some local clients asked us to plan a cocktail party for 50 people--IN TORONTO!  The family had lived there years ago, was going to be visiting the area, and wanted to throw a party to gather together old friends. Not daunted by the thousands of miles and cross-border negotiations, we dove in!

We researched top restaurants and party venues, finally choosing a hip restaurant with a celebrity chef located at a beautiful art museum. We worked closely with the staff there to design a menu, layout the room, and arranged for decor. Then, working with our terrific artist/graphic designer here in San Jose, we had fabulous invitations designed and sent out. The party was a huge success, and everyone had a wonderful time.

No matter where you are, or where you're headed, QCS can help make every event a smash!
